Swedish American Life Science Summit 2008!

August 20 - 22, 2008

Dear Friends, How quickly things can change! As a result of the fast deterioration of the economic climate in the United States over the last ten months, there has been a sharp decline in financing. This is made visible by the fact that six out of ten large Life Science related deals between our countries last year were made in the United States by Swedish entities.

However, the fundamentals remain unchanged, i.e. strategic and financial alliances need to be made with the United States, which is still very much the market place and has the clout and the knowledge needed to ensure success. A large part of the industry discourse today circulates around the crucial need for life Science companies to utilize global resources for research and development, resources coming primarily from fast growing economies such as China and India. Sweden can play an important role within research and development in this continued globalization of the industry.

Looking at the attendee list for this year’s Summit, it seems to be a sign of times that our Swedish-American Life Science Summit is rapidly turning into to Global Swedish-American Life Science Summit, and I would like to extend a particular welcome to our attendees from China, India and South Korea who are with us for the first time.

We very much look forward to learning from the collective expertise how to best nourish a new form of Life Science Company; one built to thrive in this new flat reality. Hopefully, under these two intense days, we will encounter how smart people do business under slightly more complicated circumstances.

Varmt välkomna!
Sincerely,
